About the Anglo-Spanish War
The Anglo-Spanish War (1585–1604) was a struggle between England and Spain driven by religious rivalry, English support for the Dutch revolt, and competition over overseas trade. It included the failed Spanish Armada invasion of England and repeated naval raids before the Treaty of London restored peace.
Geography of the Anglo-Spanish War
The war centered on the English Channel, the North Sea, and the Atlantic approaches to Spain and Portugal. English troops also fought Spanish forces in the Netherlands, while fleets attacked Iberian ports such as Cádiz and contested shipping near the Azores. Raids extended to Spanish possessions in the Caribbean and the Americas. Coastal defenses, ocean routes, and access to ports shaped a conflict fought across widely separated theaters.
