HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Heraion of Samos.

A single standing column marks the site of the Temple of Hera, one of the largest temples of the ancient Greek world, with the remainder reduced to foundations, column drums, and altar remains scattered across the sanctuary grounds. Together with Pythagoreion, it forms a World Heritage Site and is administered by the Greek Ministry of Culture. The site lies in open ground and is accessible to visitors on a ticketed basis.

About Heraion of Samos

The Heraion of Samos was a sanctuary to the goddess Hera, developed by the Greeks from the eighth century BCE on a site of earlier Bronze Age cult activity. Its marble temple, rebuilt several times, was renowned in antiquity as one of the largest Greek temples ever built. The sanctuary drew pilgrims and offerings from across the Greek world.
