HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Henry B. Plant Museum (Tampa Bay Hotel).
The museum occupies the south wing of the former Tampa Bay Hotel, an ornate Moorish Revival building with its minarets, cupolas, and much of its original Victorian furnishings intact, while the remainder of the building serves as an administration hall for the University of Tampa. It is owned by the City of Tampa and operated by the Henry B. Plant Museum. The museum is open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Henry B. Plant Museum (Tampa Bay Hotel)
Railroad magnate Henry B. Plant built the Tampa Bay Hotel between 1888 and 1891 as a Moorish Revival resort to draw tourists to his Florida rail and steamship lines. The hotel served as a headquarters for United States troops, including Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders, during the Spanish-American War in 1898. It helped establish Tampa as a winter resort.
