HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Hay House.
The mansion survives as a largely intact Italianate Revival house of the 1850s, retaining its elaborate cast iron and stucco detailing, cupola, and much of its original interior finishes and furnishings. It is owned and operated by the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation. The house is open to the public on a ticketed, guided tour basis.
About Hay House
Hay House was built in the 1850s for Macon merchant William Butler Johnston and his wife Anne Clark Tracy, in the Italian Renaissance Revival style inspired by their travels in Europe. It featured advanced technology for its era, including indoor plumbing, central heating, and ventilation systems. The Hay family later acquired the mansion, a showcase of antebellum Georgia wealth.
