HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Habitation La Grivelière.

Habitation La Grivelière preserves its eighteenth-century plantation house along with coffee-drying terraces and outbuildings associated with its former coffee and cacao production, maintained as a working historical estate. The property is privately owned and operated as a museum and guesthouse. It is open to visitors on a ticketed basis, generally through guided tours of the grounds and buildings.

About Habitation La Grivelière

Habitation La Grivelière developed as a coffee plantation in the mountains of Basse-Terre during the eighteenth century, one of many estates established under French colonial rule in Guadeloupe. Enslaved Africans worked its terraced coffee groves and drying facilities under the plantation economy that dominated the island. It exemplified the colonial agricultural system that shaped Guadeloupe's economy and society for generations.
