Guard House
102 W Duke of Gloucester St, Williamsburg, VA 23185, USA
Virginia, USA
HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Guard House.
The original colonial guardhouse no longer survives. Colonial Williamsburg maintains a reconstructed building on or near its historic location, with period-style rooms, furnishings, confinement spaces, and surrounding military setting interpreting security and punishment in the capital rather than preserving original eighteenth-century fabric.
About Guard House
Williamsburg’s guardhouse confined military offenders and persons detained by Virginia authorities. During the Revolution, the capital’s public buildings supported militia administration, security, and wartime government. The structure represents the policing and military discipline behind Virginia’s mobilization rather than a specific battle.
