The cemetery contains the grave of Nathanael Greene, Continental major general and commander of the Southern Department. Greene’s strategy exhausted British forces through maneuver and hard-fought battles in 1781. His remains were later reinterred in Savannah; the cemetery preserves his postwar family association.
