HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Glen Coe.

The glen survives as a largely unaltered highland landscape, with no standing structures from the 1692 massacre but scattered ruins of stone crofts and settlement remains still visible across the valley floor. Much of the glen is owned and managed by the National Trust for Scotland as part of its Glencoe and Dalness properties. The landscape is freely accessible to walkers, with a National Trust visitor center nearby.

About Glen Coe

Glen Coe was home for generations to the MacDonalds of Glencoe, a Highland clan who farmed and grazed cattle in the valley. It became infamous for the Massacre of Glencoe in 1692, when government soldiers billeted among the MacDonalds killed several of their hosts on official orders. The massacre came to symbolize the crown's suppression of the Jacobite Highland clans.
