About General Sam Houston

This site along Rocky Creek near Independence, Texas, marks the spot where General Sam Houston was baptized on November 19, 1854. The Reverend Rufus C. Burleson, a Baptist minister and president of Baylor University, performed the baptism. The event linked one of Texas's most prominent political and military figures to the Baptist faith and to Baylor's early leadership.
