About Gen. James Willie
This site marks the grave of General James Willie in Independence Cemetery. Born in Georgia in 1822, Willie moved to Texas and rose to serve as its Attorney General from 1856 to 1857, one of the state's early elected law officers. He later served as an officer in the Confederate army before his death in Houston in 1863.
