About Garza-Torres Irrigation District
The Garza-Torres irrigation system was built in the nineteenth century by Mexican American farming families near Fort Stockton to carry water from Comanche Springs to surrounding fields. It formed part of a wider network of irrigation ditches that Hispanic settlers developed to farm the arid Trans-Pecos region. The district supported small-scale agriculture in an area limited by scarce water.
