HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Gamble Plantation Historic State Park.

The centerpiece is the Gamble Mansion, an antebellum house built of tabby concrete with a wraparound colonnade, one of the few plantation houses of its era to survive intact in south Florida, along with its detached kitchen and surrounding grounds. It is administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection as a state park. The mansion is open to the public through guided tours, with the grounds freely accessible.

About Gamble Plantation Historic State Park

The Gamble Mansion was built in the 1840s by Robert Gamble as the center of a sugar plantation worked by enslaved laborers. It became one of the earliest and largest antebellum plantation houses in south Florida. After the Confederacy's defeat, fleeing secretary of state Judah P. Benjamin briefly took refuge there before escaping to England.
