About Fuerte de Casa Mata, Matamoros

Fort Casa Mata was built by Mexican military forces in the nineteenth century as a defensive fortification guarding Matamoros along the Rio Grande. It played a role in regional conflicts of the era, including tensions surrounding the Mexican-American War, when the border town held strategic military importance. The fort formed part of a system defending Mexico's northern frontier.
