About Friedens Church of Washington UCC Cemetery
Friedens Church, meaning peace in German, served a community of German immigrant farmers who settled near Washington-on-the-Brazos in the nineteenth century. Its cemetery provided a burial ground for members of the Evangelical congregation and their families. The site reflects the German Lutheran and Evangelical settlement that took root in this part of Texas.
