HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Fox Theatre.

The theater retains its elaborate Moorish and Egyptian Revival interior, including the atmospheric auditorium ceiling designed to resemble a night sky, its minarets, and much of its original 1920s decor, restored after a period of decline. It is owned and operated by the nonprofit Fox Theatre Institute and is designated a National Historic Landmark. The building remains an active performance venue, open to the public for shows and guided tours.

About Fox Theatre

The Fox Theatre opened in Atlanta in 1929 as an elaborate Moorish and Egyptian Revival movie palace, originally planned as a Shrine Temple. Its atmospheric auditorium was designed to resemble a desert courtyard under a starlit sky, hosting films, vaudeville, and concerts. The theater became a landmark of Atlanta's entertainment and cultural life.
