HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Fort Prinzenstein.
The fort retains substantial sections of its stone walls, bastions, and gateway, though significant portions of the original structure have collapsed into the sea as a result of ongoing coastal erosion along the Keta shoreline. It is managed by the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board as a protected national monument. The site is open to the public, with visitors able to walk freely among the surviving ruins.
About Fort Prinzenstein
Fort Prinzenstein was built by Danish traders in the late eighteenth century at Keta on the Gold Coast. It served as a fortified post in the Atlantic slave trade, holding captives before their shipment overseas. The fort later passed to British control and remained part of the colonial trading network along the coast.
