The former Fort Matilda survives within Basse-Terre’s later fortified complex, with masonry bastions, walls, passages, and elevated grounds conserved as a protected historic monument. A memorial identifies the reported burial of Thomas Dundas, while the fort’s fabric reflects several periods of alteration.
