HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Fort Good Hope.
What survives is the Dutch-built fort's stone ramparts, bastions, and courtyard buildings, restored in places but largely intact in plan. It is managed by the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board and forms part of the Forts and Castles of Ghana World Heritage Site. The fort is open to the public, generally through a local caretaker or guide.
About Fort Good Hope
Fort Good Hope was built by the Dutch West India Company at Senya Beraku on Ghana's coast in the early eighteenth century as a trading post. It handled commerce in gold and other goods, and, like other Gold Coast forts, was linked to the transatlantic slave trade. It was one of many European fortified trading posts along the coast.
