About Fort Augusta Historical Marker (Georgia Colonial Era)
Originally built in the 1730s and refortified during the French and Indian War era, this post anchored Georgia's frontier trade relations with the Creek and Cherokee nations amid competition with French influence in the Southeast.
A 1956 historical marker interprets Fort Augusta and Fort Cornwallis at Saint Paul's Church. Its inscription records removal of defenses in 1786. The parish dates its present church to 1918 after the 1916 fire. These later commemorative and church resources are distinct from original fort defenses; marker care and buried remains need checking.
