HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Flag Fen, Cambridgeshire.
Flag Fen preserves a Bronze Age timber causeway and post alignment recovered from waterlogged peat, along with reconstructed roundhouses built to illustrate prehistoric life on the site, so that the excavated timbers themselves are original while the roundhouse structures are modern reconstructions. It is managed as a heritage site by a local trust in the Peterborough area. The site is open to the public on a ticketed basis with a visitor center and preserved timber displays.
About Flag Fen, Cambridgeshire
Flag Fen is a Bronze Age timber causeway and platform built across a wetland near Peterborough around 1300 to 900 BCE. Excavations led by Francis Pryor from 1982 recovered thousands of wooden posts along with bronze weapons, tools, and jewelry deposited as votive offerings. The finds pointed to organized ritual practice and community engineering in prehistoric England.
