HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Estancia Jesuítica de Alta Gracia.

The estancia preserves the Jesuit church, the former residence now housing a museum, workshops, and the tajamar water reservoir built by Jesuit missionaries before their eighteenth century expulsion. It forms part of the Jesuit Block and Estancias of Córdoba World Heritage Site and is managed by the municipality of Alta Gracia together with national and provincial heritage authorities. The church remains an active place of worship, while the museum is open to the public on a ticketed basis.

About Estancia Jesuítica de Alta Gracia

The Estancia Jesuítica de Alta Gracia was established by the Jesuits in the seventeenth century as an agricultural estate worked by enslaved laborers to fund their college in Córdoba. After the 1767 Jesuit expulsion from Spanish America, it passed to private owners, including Viceroy Santiago de Liniers. It belonged to a network of Jesuit estancias in colonial Córdoba.
