About Empúries (Ampurias), Catalonia
Greek colonists founded Empúries on the Catalan coast around the sixth century BCE as a trading port linking Iberia to the Mediterranean world. A Roman town later grew beside it, and Roman forces under Scipio landed there in 218 BCE, launching the Second Punic War in Iberia. Empúries linked Greek and Roman expansion into Iberia.
