HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Emo Court.

Emo Court retains its domed neoclassical mansion, designed in part by James Gandon, along with its formal gardens, lake, and surrounding parkland largely intact from their original layout. It is managed by the Office of Public Works as a national monument. The grounds are freely accessible year round, and the house itself is open to the public through guided tours.

About Emo Court

Architect James Gandon began Emo Court around 1790 as the country seat of John Dawson, first Earl of Portarlington. In the twentieth century the house served for a time as a Jesuit novitiate. The mansion ranked among Ireland's grandest neoclassical country houses, noted for its domed rotunda and designed landscape.
