About Education in Plantersville
Plantersville set aside a town lot for a school that the local Masonic Lodge built and shared with a separate female school across the street, the two merging by 1865. A brick building, Plantersville High School, replaced the lodge schoolhouse in 1912 and served students through grade eleven. The school closed in 1951 when the district joined Navasota ISD.
HISTORY HAPPENED HERE at Education in Plantersville
In the original plat of Plantersville, a four-acre lot was set aside for a school, later built by the Plantersville Masonic Lodge as a shared space. Across the street on another corner lot was the female school where the town surveyor, James K. Markey, served as the first teacher. By 1865, the schools merged. The Masonic Lodge Building was used until 1912, when a modern brick school, named Plantersville High School, was built on the site. Students attended grades nine through eleven, with a grammar school located on the same campus. The senior class of 1942 was the last to graduate from the high school.
