HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Edison and Ford Winter Estates.

The Edison and Ford Winter Estates preserve Thomas Edison's Seminole Lodge and Mina Edison's Moonlight Garden, the adjacent Ford winter home known as The Mangoes, Edison's botanical research laboratory, and extensive gardens containing plantings collected by Edison himself. The estates are owned and operated by a nonprofit organization affiliated with the City of Fort Myers, and are designated a National Historic Landmark. The site operates as a ticketed museum with grounds, laboratory, and homes open to public tours.

About Edison and Ford Winter Estates

Thomas Edison built a winter home and laboratory here beginning in 1886, using the grounds for botanical research, including experiments toward a domestic source of rubber. Henry Ford purchased the neighboring property in 1916, and the two friends and fellow industrialists often wintered there together. The estates reflected the collaborative life of two leading American inventors.
