About East Cemetery
East Cemetery contains graves of Litchfield residents who served as Continental soldiers, militia, officials, and supporters of independence. The burial ground commemorates the community’s Revolutionary generation rather than a military action. Individual graves preserve evidence of local participation in the wider war.
The historic cemetery remains as a maintained burial ground containing early gravestones, later monuments, family plots, mature trees, and landscaped paths. Revolutionary-era residents and veterans are buried within the active cemetery, where preservation and visitor access follow local regulations and current site conditions.
