HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Domus Publica.

Only fragmentary foundation walls survive of the residence, situated at the edge of the Roman Forum near the Temple of Vesta and the House of the Vestals, with no standing superstructure remaining. The site is part of the Roman Forum, managed by Italy's Ministry of Culture through the Parco Archeologico del Colosseo. It lies within the ticketed archaeological park, generally viewed from adjacent pathways rather than entered directly.

About Domus Publica

The Domus Publica stood near the Roman Forum as the residence of the pontifex maximus, priest of Roman state religion, from the republican period onward. It adjoined the House of the Vestals and the Temple of Vesta, linking it to the cult of the sacred hearth fire. Julius Caesar resided there as pontifex maximus in the first century BCE.
