About Doclea (Duklja), near Podgorica, Montenegro
Doclea was founded as a Roman municipium in the first century CE at the confluence of the Zeta and Morača rivers, near Podgorica. It grew into a regional administrative and trading center for the Roman province of Dalmatia before declining after Slavic settlement. The town's name later passed to Duklja, the early medieval Slavic principality that grew from its ruins.
