HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Didyma.
The site preserves the massive, never-completed Temple of Apollo, including dozens of its towering Ionic columns still standing, the stepped platform, the sacred spring chamber, and a carved Medusa head fragment from the entablature. It is managed by Turkey's Ministry of Culture and Tourism as an archaeological site. The ruins stand in open ground within the modern village and are accessible on a ticketed basis.
About Didyma
Didyma was built as a sanctuary of Apollo near the Greek city of Miletus, with an oracle cult dating to the Archaic period. The temple was destroyed by the Persians in the early fifth century BCE and later rebuilt on a grand scale in the Hellenistic era. It ranked among the most important oracular shrines of the Greek world.
