About Deering Estate
Charles Deering, an industrialist and art collector, developed the Deering Estate in the early twentieth century as a winter residence on Biscayne Bay south of Miami. The property combined an earlier inn building with a Mediterranean Revival house Deering completed around 1922. The estate reflected the pattern of wealthy northerners building winter retreats in South Florida.
