HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Deering Estate.

The estate preserves the 1922 Mediterranean Revival Stone House and the 1896 Richmond Cottage, along with surrounding pine rockland, mangrove, and archaeological sites including prehistoric burial mounds. It is owned by Miami-Dade County and operated as the Deering Estate, a designated site on the National Register of Historic Places. It is open to the public on a ticketed basis.

About Deering Estate

Charles Deering, an industrialist and art collector, developed the Deering Estate in the early twentieth century as a winter residence on Biscayne Bay south of Miami. The property combined an earlier inn building with a Mediterranean Revival house Deering completed around 1922. The estate reflected the pattern of wealthy northerners building winter retreats in South Florida.
