About Dawson Massacre Site
On September 18, 1842, a Texan militia company under Nicholas Dawson, marching to relieve San Antonio during General Adrian Woll's invasion, was surrounded and cut down by Mexican cavalry and artillery near Salado Creek, with most of the sixty-man company killed or captured. The disaster occurred the same day as the larger Battle of Salado Creek nearby.
