HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Culross Historic Village.

The village preserves its cobbled streets and ochre harled seventeenth century merchant houses, the restored Culross Palace with its painted interiors and terraced garden, and the ruined choir of Culross Abbey alongside its surviving parish church tower. Culross Palace and the town house are managed by the National Trust for Scotland, while the abbey ruins fall under Historic Environment Scotland. The village streets are freely accessible, with the palace and abbey remains open on a ticketed or seasonal basis.

About Culross Historic Village

Culross was a Royal Burgh on the Firth of Forth that prospered in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries under Sir George Bruce, who developed coal mines extending beneath the sea. He built salt pans to process the coal and constructed Culross Palace around 1597. The burgh's coal and salt exports made it an early industrial center on the Forth.
