HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Copper Mine Point.

The site preserves ruins associated with historic copper mining activity on Virgin Gorda, including remnant stone structures and mine workings set within a coastal landscape. It lies within the British Virgin Islands National Parks Trust system as a protected national park. The site is freely accessible in open ground for visitors.

About Copper Mine Point

Copper Mine Point was developed in the mid-nineteenth century when a company brought Cornish miners to Virgin Gorda to extract copper ore. The mine operated from the 1830s to the 1860s, shipping ore to smelters in Wales for processing. It represented one of the few industrial mining ventures undertaken in the British Virgin Islands during the colonial era.
