A row of restored white windmills stands along the ridge above the town, alongside the ruins of the Muela castle, with the windmills reconstructed in the twentieth century on their historic sites rather than as original medieval fabric. They are maintained by the municipality of Consuegra. The exterior grounds are freely accessible, with select windmill interiors open to visitors.
About Consuegra Windmills
Local millers built the windmills above Consuegra beginning in the sixteenth century to grind grain for the surrounding La Mancha plain. Positioned on a ridge below the town's Moorish-era castle, they used wind power in a region with few water sources for traditional watermills. The windmills later became associated with the giants battled by Don Quixote in Cervantes's novel.
