HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Compton Wynyates, Warwickshire.

The brick and stone Tudor manor house survives largely as built, with its distinctive twisted chimneys, gables, and surrounding moat and gardens intact, though some interiors were altered in later centuries. It remains in private ownership, held by the Compton family, Marquesses of Northampton. The house is not generally open to the public, with access limited to occasional private arrangements.

About Compton Wynyates, Warwickshire

Compton Wynyates was built by the Compton family beginning in the late fifteenth century as a moated manor house in Warwickshire. Sir William Compton, a courtier of Henry VIII, greatly enlarged it in the early sixteenth century into a grand courtyard house of mellow brick and patterned chimneys. It exemplified the shift from fortified manor to Tudor residence.
