About Complutum, Alcalá de Henares
Rome established Complutum as a municipium in the Henares valley around the turn of the first century CE, on a road linking Emerita Augusta to Caesaraugusta. The town grew into a prosperous administrative and trading center with a forum, baths, and villas. It became associated with the early Christian martyrs Justus and Pastor before its population shifted to nearby Alcalá.
