HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Columbia State Historic Park.

The park preserves an assemblage of original and restored nineteenth century gold rush era buildings, wooden boardwalks, and commercial storefronts along its main street, with some structures reconstructed to their historic appearance. It is owned and operated by California State Parks as a state historic park. The town is freely accessible and open to the public, with some buildings housing operating shops and exhibits.

About Columbia State Historic Park

Columbia grew rapidly after gold was discovered there in 1850, becoming one of the leading placer mining camps of the California Gold Rush. At its peak it supported thousands of miners along with hotels, saloons, banks, and merchants supplying the diggings. Mining declined as the gold-bearing gravels were exhausted in later decades.
