HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Cnidus (Knidos).

The site preserves extensive Hellenistic and Roman ruins, including two theaters, a stoa, temple platforms associated with Aphrodite, and remains of the ancient harbors and city walls, largely as unreconstructed ruins. It is administered by Turkey's Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The site lies in open ground and is accessible to visitors, generally on a ticketed basis.

About Cnidus (Knidos)

Greek settlers founded Cnidus on Turkey's Aegean coast, and by the fourth century BCE it had grown into a prosperous trading port. It was renowned for a temple housing Praxiteles's celebrated statue of Aphrodite and for the astronomer Eudoxus, who studied and taught there. It served as a center of Greek trade, religion, and scholarship in Asia Minor.
