HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Ciudad Bolívar Historic Centre.

The historic center retains its colonial and nineteenth century architecture along the Paseo Orinoco waterfront, including the cathedral, the Casa de las Doce Ventanas, and rows of arcaded houses, largely original in form though many facades have been restored. It is under the protection of Venezuelan and Bolívar State heritage authorities. The streets and public buildings are freely open to visitors.

About Ciudad Bolívar Historic Centre

Ciudad Bolívar was founded in 1764 as Angostura, a Spanish colonial port town at the narrows of the Orinoco River. It served as a base for Simon Bolivar during the wars of independence, and the Congress of Angostura met in 1819 to establish Gran Colombia. The town was later renamed in Bolivar's honor for its role in independence.
