The site preserves the stone foundations and low walls of eight courtyard houses arranged along a village street, along with the remains of a fogou, representing an Iron Age and Romano-British settlement left as uncovered ruins. It is managed by English Heritage as a scheduled monument. The site is open to the public on a ticketed, seasonal basis.
About Chysauster Ancient Village
Chysauster was an Iron Age and Romano-British settlement built by the local Cornish population from around the first century BCE. It consisted of stone-walled courtyard houses arranged along a village street, occupied into the Roman period. The village illustrates rural domestic life and stone building traditions in ancient Cornwall.
