The Church and Convent of San Francisco in Quito preserves its Baroque and Mudejar-influenced facade, cloisters, chapels, and an extensive collection of colonial religious art and sculpture housed within the convent. It remains under the custody of the Franciscan order, with parts of the complex forming part of the historic center recognized as a World Heritage Site. The church remains an active place of worship, while the convent and museum areas are open on a ticketed, guided basis.

About Church and Convent of San Francisco

The Church and Convent of San Francisco in Quito was founded by Franciscan friars in 1535 and built largely with indigenous labor. It became the largest religious complex of colonial Quito, combining Spanish, Moorish, and indigenous artistic styles. The convent served as a center for missionary training and Catholic evangelization across the Andes.
