About Christ Church Cathedral & College, Oxford

Christ Church was founded in 1525 by Cardinal Thomas Wolsey as Cardinal College, then refounded by Henry VIII in 1546 as an Oxford college joined to the cathedral of the new Oxford diocese. Its chapel incorporated the earlier priory church of St Frideswide, a dual role among Oxford colleges. It served as a center for educating clergy and scholars.
