Chenies Manor House preserves its Tudor brick tower, undercroft, and a range of original sixteenth-century rooms, together with later garden features, though parts of the wider Tudor palace once associated with the Russell family, Earls of Bedford, were demolished in later centuries. The house and gardens remain in private ownership. They are open to the public on a limited, seasonal, ticketed basis.
About Chenies Manor House, Buckinghamshire
The Cheyne family built Chenies Manor House in Buckinghamshire in the fifteenth century as their principal residence. The Russell family, later Earls of Bedford, acquired it by marriage and hosted Henry VIII and Elizabeth I there during royal progresses. It served as a principal Russell family seat for generations before the family moved elsewhere.
