Charlton House survives largely intact as a Jacobean brick mansion, retaining its original H-plan form, ornate doorcase, and several period interior features, though its grounds and outbuildings have been altered over time. It is owned by the Royal Borough of Greenwich and used as a public library and community venue. The grounds are freely accessible and parts of the interior are open to the public.

About Charlton House, Greenwich, London

Charlton House was built in the early seventeenth century as a Jacobean mansion for Sir Adam Newton, tutor to Henry, Prince of Wales. It was constructed as one of the most elaborate Jacobean houses of its era, reflecting the wealth and taste of the early Stuart court. The house later passed through several owners and served institutional purposes.
