The Elizabethan gatehouse and much of the Tudor-era house, outbuildings, and brewhouse survive, alongside a deer park that has remained largely unenclosed since the sixteenth century, though the main house's interior was substantially remodeled in the nineteenth century. It is owned by the National Trust. The house, gardens, and deer park are open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Charlecote Park, Warwickshire
Sir Thomas Lucy built Charlecote Park in the 1550s as a Tudor country house for his family estate in Warwickshire. Tradition holds, though it remains unverified, that a young William Shakespeare was caught poaching deer on the grounds. The Lucy family retained the estate for generations, and the house exemplified Elizabethan gentry architecture.
