HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Centro Histórico de Mazatlán.

The historic center preserves a substantial ensemble of nineteenth century buildings around the Plazuela Machado, including the Ángela Peralta Theater and the Basilica Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, along with characteristic wrought iron balconies and facades. It is protected as a historic monument zone under Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History and overseen by the municipal government. The district is freely accessible as an open urban neighborhood, with individual buildings such as the theater ticketed separately.

About Centro Histórico de Mazatlán

Mazatlán's historic center grew up around its natural harbor, developing through the nineteenth century into a leading Pacific port shaped by Spanish, Mexican, and immigrant merchant families, including German traders. Its buildings combined neoclassical and eclectic European styles fashionable in Porfirian Mexico. The district anchored the city's commerce, shipping, and civic life.
