About Cementerio del Barrio de los Lipanes
This cemetery served a barrio near Presidio associated with Lipan Apache families along the Rio Grande during the eighteenth century, in an area used by Native peoples and later Spanish colonial settlers. It provided a burial ground for the community that lived there. The site reflects the presence of Indigenous and mixed communities in the La Junta borderlands.
