The site preserves a sixteenth century colonial mansion with its courtyards, colonial-era rooms, and furnishings largely intact, having been continuously altered and maintained rather than left as a ruin. It remains privately owned by the Aliaga family, reputedly its original owners since the Spanish colonial period. The house is open to the public only by guided tour.
About Casa de Aliaga (oldest continuously inhabited colonial house in the Americas)
Casa de Aliaga was built in 1535 by Jerónimo de Aliaga, one of the Spanish captains who accompanied Francisco Pizarro, on land granted to him soon after Lima's founding. It served as his family residence in the heart of the new colonial capital. The house passed down through the Aliaga family for generations, reflecting the continuity of Lima's elite.
