HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery.

The site preserves a large cluster of megalithic passage tombs and stone circles, including the well-known central tomb known as Listoghil, though many satellite monuments have been damaged or partly destroyed over time. It is state-owned, managed by the Office of Public Works as a national monument. It is open to the public with a visitor center on site.

About Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery

Carrowmore is a cemetery of Neolithic passage tombs and dolmens built by early farming communities from around the fourth millennium BCE. It contains dozens of megalithic monuments, among the densest concentrations of such tombs in Ireland, arranged around a cairn. The site formed the ritual and burial heart of a wider Neolithic landscape near Knocknarea.
