Cape Mount Historic Settlement
Robertsport, Liberia
Grand Cape Mount, Liberia
HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Cape Mount Historic Settlement.
Little is documented of standing historic fabric at Cape Mount beyond scattered colonial era foundations and the general townscape of Robertsport, with no widely confirmed intact historic structures of note. Any protected remains would fall under general Liberian government heritage oversight, though no specific managing authority is well established for the settlement. Public access, where remains exist, is informal and unticketed, consistent with open ground rather than a developed monument.
About Cape Mount Historic Settlement
Cape Mount was long a center of Vai and Gola settlement on Liberia's coast. In the nineteenth century it became a resettlement site for freed and repatriated Africans and African Americans under the American Colonization Society, and was renamed for Liberian president Joseph Jenkins Roberts. It served as an early administrative and missionary outpost in Liberia.
